I
have often wondered how to re-create some
of those effects seen in professional
pics, so lets see if we can do that using
Paint Shop Pro 6. As a reference lets take
one of the dbz pics I have. On the left is
the original picture of Cell, and on the
right is one of my latest attempts to
reproduce this image (Click the image to

Here you can see a
screen shot of PSP6 (click to enlarge).
Most of the tools, such as "move", "crop"
and "eraser" are self-explanatory; we need
only to become familiar with the basic
drawing and editing tools, which are the
"dropper" tool, used for the color
selection (for painting), the "retouch"
tool (used for modifications like
blurring, smoothing darkening and much
more), and the "draw" tool, which can be
used to draw lines or any shapes filled
with any color of your choosing. Other
tools have similar controls options. The
tools you see to the left are not unique
since you select what tools to display
when you go to File/Preferences/Customize
toolbar.

To
the left is an example of the options one
sees when the mouse is pointed on the
"Tool options" bar (click to enlarge). The
first three are the options for the
retouch tool and the second set, for the
draw tool. As can be seen, there are
parameters (size, hardness, opacity...) to
be varied that can drastically effect what
you are trying to accomplish in your
picture. I will try to explain what each
option does as I describe how I drew the
pic, but it's a good idea to play around
with the tools first since there are not a
lot of them in PSP6 (compared to
photoshop) and get to know them by
experimenting.
