#32: Strawberry Fields for Buddha — February 1, 2013

Tochigi Prefecture, about 75 miles north of Tokyo, is the strawberry capital of Japan. The berries are grown year-round; outdoors during the warmest months, and in houthouses during the off-season. Many farms open their strawberry fields to tourists. For a small fee, visitors can pick and eat as many strawberries as they want within a certain amount of time (usually 30 minutes).

We invited the Manga University Daibutsu to pick strawberries with us at one of Tochigi's premier farms. A half-hour and 50 strawberries each later, we were all experiencing what is probably best described as a "strawberry hangover."
